President: Barbara Gross, MA, BCBA, LBA, CSE
Barbara is a Board Certified Behavior Analyst and AASECT Certified Sexuality Educator. She specializes in staff and caregiver training and development of sexual behavior intervention plans for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (ID/DD), including autism spectrum disorder. She also works to coordinate with educators to promote equity in access to comprehensive sexuality education for children with disabilities. Other areas of practice and research interests include pornography literacy, abuse prevention for children and adults with disabilities, and dissemination of behavior analysis and the potential it offers to promote healthy sexuality for people of all abilities.
Vice President: Jessica Dahl, BCBA
Jess is a BCBA and business owner in the Dallas TX area. Her company, Apex Behavior Services focuses solely on meeting the therapeutic needs of teens and adults diagnosed with autism and intellectual differences and the unique socio-sexual needs of this population.
She began her therapy career at a rehabilitation center in Washington treating individuals adjudicated for sex crimes with concurrent diagnoses of PDD, ID, and other developmental differences using ABA and CBT strategies while studying under an LSOTP.
Jess is dedicated to continue to advocate for the social and sexual self-actualization of her clients and to further the scope of research and knowledge in this area.
Secretary: Landa Fox, MA, BCBA, CSHE
Landa is a BCBA and Certified Sexual Health Educator living and working in Lkwungen territory/Victoria British Columbia. Her work focuses on sexual health and relationship education for those with unique learning needs. She works with schools, families, and individuals to create and modify existing sexual health and relationship education to be meaningful to those it is being presented to. She also works to create behaviour support plans to address inappropriate sexual/sexualized behaviours. She trains teachers, staff, and communities about sexual health development focusing on making sexual health education inclusive and accessible to all.
Student Representative: Kylie Brofman
Kylie just finished her first year as a masters student in ABA. Kylie currently works as a RBT with children with Autism. Her past experiences with sexual health involved working with the program ‘its on us’ as well as doing qualitative research on fraternity men’s views on feminism throughout a sexual education class by reading journal entries and transcribing videos from classes in the 80s-2010.
Student Representative: Samantha Sullivan
Samantha is a graduate student pursuing her Master’s Degree. Samantha is a well-rounded person who respects that everyone has a different history that has shaped their behavior. While pursuing her degree, Samantha’s research focuses on improving people’s quality of life and personal interests. Samantha first became interested in the position of ABA Student because her personally motto “to help make the world a better place” and is a part of the Sexual Behavior Research and Practice SIG Leadership team in order to help locate and deliver tools to people to lead the happiest life that they strive for.
Student Representative: Sheryl Tan
Sheryl will be starting her ABA masters program in Fall 2020. She works mainly with young learners with autism and a few teenagers as well. She completed research on individuals with developmental disabilities and sexual education during her undergraduate and found that resources in this area are lacking. She has been reading articles and attending workshops and conferences on sexual health and education to gain more knowledge outside of school and work, and is committed to social justice, education for all, and disseminating the knowledge she gains.
