The Sexual Behavior Research and Practice Special Interest Group exists to help promote empirically verifiable sex therapy and sexuality education techniques and materials, and to promote behavior analytic research in human sexuality.
The SBRP SIG acts in accordance with the belief that bodily self-determination and identity self-determination, including sex, sexuality, and gender, are a human right. The SIG acts in accordance with empirically informed best practice within and outside of the field. As such, the SIG affirms and centers the World Health Organization’s assertion of sexual rights as human rights.
Additionally, the SIG affirms the importance of direct acknowledgement of the impact of oppression on the field of sex education, and acknowledges sex education as a social justice issue. As such, the SIG affirms and centers the Sexuality Information and Education Council of the United States (SIECUS) commitment to social justice in sex education, including but not limited to: access to comprehensive sexuality education, reproductive justice, LGBTQ equality, sexual violence prevention, gender equity, and dismantling white supremacy.
